Classic Doctor Who Action Figures

Posted in 1st Doctor, 2nd Doctor, 6th Doctor, Classic Series, Colin Baker, Cybermen, Dalek, Objects of Desire, Patrick Troughton, Toys & Merchandise, William Hartnell with tags , , on May 20, 2009 by Mr M

Continuing their release of classic Doctor Who action figures, Character Online are due to release figures of the 1st, 2nd and 6th Doctors in July this year. The sets will comprise of the following:

William Hartnell action figure with Supreme Controller Dalek as featured in the Dalek Invasion of Earth. It has to be noted that I refer to the tv story not the movie version featuring Peter Cushing. The cool thing about this set is that it’s also available in black and white as it would have been seen in 1964 when it was first aired.

The 3rd and 4th sets of colour and black and white figures feature Patrick Troughton and a cyberman from the 1967 story, Tomb of the Cybermen. I’m not 100% certain if this cyberman will be a re-release of the Age of Steel build an collect figures released earlier this year. {Note! I’ve checked, it is a re-release and not a new version!}

These double figure sets are expected to retail around £24.99. Pre orders can be placed at Forbidden Planet‘s website.

Finally a second 6th Doctor is to be relased without his usual harlequin costume. This figure wears a blue costume as featured in the BBC webcast ‘Real Time’, and a few book covers. It’s a toned down version of his normal bright attire, now reproduced as this great action figure.

This now only leaves the 3rd Doctor (Jon Pertwee), the 7th Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) and the 8th Doctor (Paul McGann). Will we have to wait until 2010 for these? Only time will tell.

Soldiers with gas masks and machine guns fire at and kill one another on a misty plain of rubble and dirt. From out of the mist, the Doctor waves his hands, snapping at the Time Lords for intercepting a transmat beam, something very dangerous. A Time Lord in black hood and cloak appears as the Doctor rants about the Time Lord’s continual interference in his life. The Time Lord tells the Doctor that their people have interrupted transmat beams for a long time, a simple thing for their race. The Time Lord tells the Doctor they have something for him to do for them. The Doctor won’t hear of it until the Time Lord snaps one word, “Daleks.” The Doctor then says, “Tell me more.” The Time Lords foresee a time when Daleks become the dominant creatures in the universe. They want the Doctor to avert their creation or affect their genetic development so that they become less aggressive creatures or if he cannot, to find one inherent weakness. The Doctor tells him one more time he will do their dirty work. He asks for the coordinates to Skaro so he can set the TARDIS to it but the Time Lord tells him, “This is Skaro.” He gives the Doctor a time ring so that when his mission is finished, he can return to the TARDIS. When the Doctor looks up, the Time Lord has vanished, leaving the Doctor to yell, “Don’t just disappear! What about Sarah and Harry?”

“Planet Earth. This is where I was born. And this is where I died. For the first nineteen years of my life nothing happened. Nothing at all, not ever. And then I met a man called the Doctor, a man who could change his face. And he took me away from home in his magical machine. He showed me the whole of time and space. I thought it would never end…”

“How long are you going to stay with me?”
“Forever”

“That’s what I thought. But then came the army of ghosts; then came Torchwood and the war. And that’s when it all ended. This is the story of how I died…” Continue reading

“My name is Rose Tyler, and this is the story of Torchwood, the last story I’ll ever tell. This is the story of how I died.”As the Daleks, led by the Black Dalek, advance to kill Rose, Mickey and Rajesh the young time traveller confuses them by showing that she, a mere human is aware of the Daleks and the Time War. She tells them they must keep them alive to find out why but the creatures are more concerned with awakening a device called the Genesis Ark, a domed object that has followed them out of the sphere.

Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965) – Movie Guide

Posted in Dalek, Doctor Who Movies, Peter Cushing, Video Clip with tags , , , on March 31, 2009 by Mr M

drwhodaleks1965

Dr. Who (Peter Cushing) and his granddaughters, Susan (Roberta Tovey) and Barbara (Jennie Linden), show Barbara’s boyfriend Ian (Roy Castle) the Doctor’s latest invention, a time machine called Tardis. When Ian accidentally activates the machine, it takes them to a petrified jungle on a world devastated by an ancient nuclear war fought between the Daleks and the Thals. (Although the planet is not named in the film, in its sequel it is retroactively revealed to be called Skaro, matching the name given in the television series.) At the conclusion of the war, the Daleks, heavily mutated by radiation, encased themselves in protective machines and retreated into their city, while the humanoid Thals survived the fallout through the use of an anti-radiation drug and became a peaceful race of farmers. The Thals’ crops have recently failed, however, and they have journeyed to the petrified jungle to seek help from their former enemies. The Daleks, meanwhile, although determined to become the dominant race on Skaro, are unable to leave the city due to their vulnerability to radiation and their reliance on static electricity to power their travel machines.
